Celtic Energy Limited

The Brief

Celtic Energy Limited is the leading Coal Mining Company in South Wales and operates surface coal mining sites and a coal washery at Onllwyn, near Neath, where the coal is processed and despatched by road and rail to customers throughout Europe. They produce over 1 million tonnes of high quality coal per annum for domestic, industrial and electricity generation demand.

The company were unhappy with the performance of their previous energy broker, so were looking for a new energy consultancy to help them introduce an effective energy management strategy that reduced risk and minimised their energy costs.

The Solution

  • Detailed review of energy procurement processes to identify cost saving opportunities and best value suppliers
  • Carbon Reduction Survey to measure the cost of the government’s CRC Energy Efficiency scheme

“We engaged UES Energy in 2009 for the facilitation of our large electricity contracts and to advise us on our energy management strategy. We have been rewarded with a reduction in our electricity costs and a well-managed position going forward. Most recently, we were delighted with UES’s timely recommendation to place our electricity contract early, avoiding the price rises resulting from the Middle East crisis. We are thrilled with the performance of UES Energy and the benefits they have delivered to us.”

Richard Walters, Managing Director
