LNG imports down trend continues
LNG import levels into the UK are currently predicted to be the lowest since July 2010 and 35% down on October 2011.
However a combination of temperatures above the seasonal norm and low demand, both in the UK and continental Europe, means that storage levels remain very high, with long range storage at 100% of capacity and medium-range storage at 86% fullness.
Temperatures for the UK this winter are now forecast to be the warmest for 3 years, suggesting that the UK gas supply position will remain comfortable during this period.
Stock levels in the Far East are also high at a time when those countries are also suffering a slowdown in economic growth, and US demand for imported LNG has fallen away substantially following the discovery of significant shale gas reserves.
These factors all suggest that the current global surplus of gas may continue for some time. For more details on LNG imports visit Argus Media.
