UES staff volunteer for BITC Give & Gain Day 2011
On Friday 24 June, more than 300 employees from 25 companies in Wales ditched their day jobs to get out into their local communities and help change the lives of thousands of people. UES were one of these companies.
Give & Gain Day is the UK's largest and only day of action for employee volunteers, organised by Business in the Community.
At Bedwas Infants School, Caerphilly, 14 UES staff completed a project to improve the outdoor area of the school by creating a pathway around the schools planting area, with a scarecrow and a mini-beast area to encourage small bugs and insects for the children to study.
Head Teacher Lynne Hadid was delighted by the enthusiasm of the volunteers and was thrilled by the results.
"We are very grateful to UES for their time and help to improve our outdoor area. The school moto is ‘happy faces, kind hearts, and inquiring minds’ – the work from UES, certainly helps us live up to that. The children are very excited about the scarecrow and mini-beast area in particular and cannot wait to see what bugs they can find!"
Volunteer, Micheal Hill from UES who project managed the scheme said:
"As a responsible business, it's brilliant that all of the UES staff were able to get involved and out of the office for a day to give back to our community. We were delighted to support this Give & Gain initiative again and help one of our local schools improve their facilities. This project will have a lasting impact and benefit to the pupils at Bedwas Infants School. Not only have we made a difference to the schools outdoor environment, but we have had great fun working together as a team too.
“I also wish to thank Denman & Sons and Specialist Precast Products for donating the materials to make this project possible. They also delivered the materials free of charge too. Both UES and Bedwas Infants School pupils are very grateful to them.”
